Indiana Receives the 2010 Silver Shovel Award
The state of Indiana is a recipient of one of Area Development magazine's 2010 Silver Shovel Awards. This is the second time Indiana has been honored by Area Development magazine. In addition, Lafayette was recognized as having contributed with Alorica as one of the top ten projects.
Area Development magazine's 5th Annual Gold & Silver Shovel Awards recognize state economic development agencies that drive significant job creation through innovative policies, infrastructure improvements, processes, and promotions that attract new employers and investments in new and expanded facilities.
Silver Shovel Awards are presented annually to states that have achieved significant success in terms of job creation and economic impact. Each of the 50 states was invited by Area Development magazine to submit information about its top-10 job creation and investment projects. Only those projects that began to materialize in 2009 were considered.
Based on the number of high-valued added jobs per capita, amount of investment, number of new facilities, and industry diversity of the 10 submitted projects, Indiana qualified for a Silver Shovel Award in the 5-to-10 million population category.
